Frequently Asked Questions
What inlet size do most basin fittings in this collection use?
The vast majority of basin fittings on this page work to the South African standard of a 1/2 inch BSP connection. That covers angle valves, flexible hoses and the tail threads on most basin mixers and pillar taps. Where a fitting deviates from the standard (for example a 3/8 inch concealed valve or a 10 x 15 mm compression connection on some imported angle valves) we call this out in the product specification. If you are unsure, send your basin or mixer model to our team and we can confirm the matching fitting before you order.
Slotted or unslotted basin waste: which one do I need?
The answer depends on your basin. If the basin has a built-in overflow hole near the top of the bowl, you need a slotted waste so water can drain through the overflow channel and into the waste outlet. If the basin has no overflow (common on countertop bowls and modern wall-hung designs), choose an unslotted waste so water does not seep out behind the basin. Mixing these up is the most common cause of slow drainage and leaks on new basin installations.
What does DZR mean on your angle valves?
DZR stands for dezincification-resistant brass. It is a specially alloyed brass formulated to resist the corrosion that affects ordinary brass when exposed to South African mains water over long periods, especially in areas with higher chloride content. DZR fittings hold their internal bore and seal integrity for longer, reducing the risk of pinhole leaks and stiff valve handles years down the line. We recommend DZR angle valves and connectors on every new bathroom installation that we specify at Bella Bathrooms and Tiles.
Will these basin fittings handle South African mains pressure?
Yes. Every basin fitting we stock is rated for residential mains supply across the typical South African range of 1 to 5 bar, with most products also approved for the 6 bar upper limit set by SANS 10252. If your home runs above 5 bar (common on direct-feed properties in parts of Johannesburg and Cape Town), we suggest fitting a pressure-reducing valve at the main to protect your tapware and seals. Our team can advise on the correct PRV setting during your bathroom specification.
Can I see basin fittings in person before I commit?
Absolutely. Our Kramerville showroom has a wide selection of basin fittings, mixers and waste sets on display alongside actual basins, so you can see exactly how the fitting will look in context. Pop in for a personalised consultation, bring photos or plans of your project, and we will help you specify a complete basin set in one visit. Coffee is on us.
