Frequently Asked Questions
Which flooring type works best in a bathroom?
For wet zones specifically, luxury vinyl is the safest specification because it is fully waterproof, dimensionally stable in humid conditions and warmer underfoot than tile. Laminate handles damp bathrooms with proper sealing but is less forgiving of standing water. Engineered timber adds genuine warmth and grain, and modern HDF cores cope well in family bathrooms provided the finish is sealed and edges are siliconed at the perimeter. If you want one continuous floor running from the bedroom through the en-suite, vinyl or engineered remain the most practical compromise between performance and aesthetics.
What does the AC4 W32 rating on the laminate boards mean?
AC4 is the abrasion class, indicating the surface wear layer is rated for heavy residential or moderate commercial traffic, including hallways and busy living areas. The W32 rating is the European usage class for moisture and durability, again pitched at heavy residential or general commercial use. In practical terms, both ratings comfortably cover everything a typical home will throw at the floor over its lifespan. Higher classes exist for shopping centres and similar environments, but they are over-specified for most domestic projects in this country.
How do I work out how many boxes to order?
Calculate the room area in square metres, then add ten percent for cutting waste on a standard layout. If the room has multiple corners, awkward angles or a diagonal plank pattern, push the waste allowance to fifteen percent. Each box in this collection clearly states its coverage. The AGT laminate planks for example cover 1.83 square metres per box. Always order from a single batch where possible to avoid subtle shade variation, and keep at least one full box aside after install for future repairs to damaged boards.
What underlay do I need?
Most floating floors require a foam or fibreboard underlay between the substrate and the planks, which absorbs minor floor irregularities and reduces footfall noise. In wet areas, choose an underlay with an integrated moisture barrier, or fit a separate damp-proof membrane beneath standard underlay if the slab has not been tanked. Underfloor heating compatibility is critical too. Confirm the rated heat resistance of both the underlay and the floor finish, because exceeding the recommended surface temperature will cause delamination and gapping over time.
Can I view full samples before committing?
Yes, and we always recommend it. Flooring photographs flatten the grain, shift the colour temperature and disguise the textured surface that defines the better engineered and laminate ranges. Bella Bathrooms & Tiles keeps the full AGT laminate, vinyl and engineered ranges on display at the Kramerville showroom, and we can supply takeaway sample boards on most products so you can view the floor in your own light. Pop in, grab a coffee, and our team will walk you through the practical differences in the context of your project.
