Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between vinyl and laminate flooring?
Vinyl is built on a PVC core that is fully waterproof, making it the right specification for bathrooms, kitchens, laundries, and any room where water on the floor is routine. Laminate uses an HDF core that swells when water penetrates the joint seal, so it is not bathroom appropriate. Vinyl is also warmer and quieter underfoot than laminate. The trade-off is that high-end laminate can deliver a slightly more realistic wood emboss than entry-level vinyl, though premium vinyl ranges like the Sapphire and Fincrete in this collection close that gap considerably.
What does the wear layer thickness mean, and which should I choose?
The wear layer is the clear top film that protects the printed design from scratches and abrasion, measured in millimetres. For residential use, 0.3mm to 0.55mm is the standard range. The Sapphire range sits at 0.3mm, which is appropriate for bedrooms, living areas, and low-traffic kitchens. The Fincrete range at 0.55mm with Super UV protection is built for high-traffic kitchens, hallways, and family bathrooms. Heavier wear layers extend the realistic lifespan of the floor under daily use and are worth the small premium in active areas.
Is vinyl flooring fully waterproof for bathroom installation?
Yes. The PVC core on the Sapphire and Fincrete ranges in this collection is fully waterproof, so spills, splashes, and steam pose no risk to the structural integrity of the plank. That makes vinyl the correct flooring choice for bathrooms, en-suites, guest cloakrooms, and laundry rooms. The click-lock joint is also water-tight under normal use. For full-wet installations such as walk-in showers, a tiled or epoxy system is still the appropriate specification, since standing water sitting on joints for prolonged periods is outside the design intent.
What coverage per box should I budget for?
The Fincrete range ships at 908.4mm by 451.2mm by 2.5mm with 3.279 square metres per box. The Sapphire Wide Board range ships at 1230mm by 228mm by 5.5mm with 2.24 square metres per box. Allow 10 percent over your measured floor area to cover cutting waste, breakage, and future replacement stock from the same dye batch. Bring your room dimensions to our Kramerville showroom and the team will calculate the exact box count for you across the range you choose.
How is vinyl installed and maintained?
The Sapphire and Fincrete planks use a click-lock joint that floats over a level subfloor without adhesive. The substrate must be flat to within 3mm over 2 metres, dust-free, and dry. Underlay is required and matched to the substrate. Daily care is a soft-broom or vacuum on hard-floor setting, with a damp mop and mild detergent for cleaning. Avoid steam mops above 90 degrees Celsius, abrasive scouring pads, and solvent-based cleaners, which can damage the wear layer. Bella Bathrooms & Tiles retains warranty records for any claim handled with the distributor.
