How is a drop-in basin installed?
A drop-in basin sits inside a cut-out in the countertop, with the rim resting on top of the stone or vanity surface. A bead of silicone seals the rim to prevent water tracking underneath. Installation is quicker and more forgiving than an under-counter fitting because the basin lip hides the cut edge, so a fractionally oversized cut-out will still finish neatly. Your fabricator or installer can fit a drop-in basin in under an hour once the counter is in place.
Will I need a cut-out template?
Yes. Each drop-in basin requires a precise cut-out matching its rim shape and dimensions. Most of our basins, including the Geberit and Lecico ranges, ship with a paper template or include CAD drawings. Hand the template to your stone fabricator or carpenter before the counter is cut. If a template is missing, contact the Bella Bathrooms team and we will source one directly from the manufacturer before your fabrication day.
What tap-hole configurations are available?
Drop-in basins are offered with either a single central tap hole for a monobloc mixer, three tap holes for a traditional bridge or three-piece tap set, or no tap hole where the tap will be mounted on the counter or wall behind. The pre-drilled position matches a 35 mm standard mixer body. Each listing on the Bella Bathrooms site confirms the tap-hole configuration, so you can match the basin to your chosen tap before ordering.
What waste size and overflow do drop-in basins use?
South African plumbing standard is a 32 mm basin waste, which all our drop-in basins are dimensioned for. Most models include an integrated overflow channel, in which case fit a slotted waste so the overflow can drain correctly. Models without an overflow take an unslotted waste. The Geberit VariForm range and others include a click-clack waste option that doubles as the plug, which is well worth specifying for ease of use.
Can a drop-in basin be retrofitted to an existing vanity?
Often yes. Provided the existing cut-out matches or can be enlarged slightly to suit the new basin's footprint, a drop-in basin is one of the easier upgrades to perform. Take the inside dimensions of your current cut-out before browsing, or send photos through to our team.
