Blutide Channels and Traps
Blutide Channels and Traps
Eleven products, and there is no point dressing that up: six shower traps and five shower channels from Blutide. It is a small page, but it covers the decision that matters, which is whether the shower floor drains to a point or to a line. Everything here is floor drainage for a walk in shower. Basin and bath wastes are a different thing entirely and live elsewhere.
Channel or Trap
A trap is a point drain. The floor falls towards it from every side, which means the tiler is working four falls into one square, and that is fiddly with anything larger than a small format tile. A channel is a linear drain. The floor falls one way only, towards the line, so large format tiles and slabs lie flat and the cuts stay simple. That is the real reason channels have taken over in new work rather than anything to do with looks.
The other half of it is where the drain sits. A channel is usually run against the back wall or across the shower entrance, so the grate reads as a deliberate line. A trap sits wherever the fall converges, which is normally the middle of the floor. Either way, this is a decision to take before the screed goes down, not after the tiles are on.
What Is Actually Stocked
The five channels are 500mm apart from one at 750mm, and the finishes run across stainless steel, gunmetal, brushed brass and chrome, with the 750mm in black. The traps are the square pattern in five finishes, brushed stainless steel, gunmetal, black, brushed brass and chrome, plus one 80mm trap supplied with a chrome waste. If you need a length or a finish combination that is not showing, ask us before you assume it does not exist, because the catalogue lists a few drainage items outside this page.
Not to Be Confused With the Wastes Page
Shower channels and traps drain the floor. Basin clicker wastes, bath wastes, bottle traps, spouts and valves are all on Blutide plumbing and wastes, which is where the 32mm and 40mm sizing questions belong. If you are specifying a whole shower, the mixers are on shower mixers and the roses on shower heads, and it is worth matching the grate finish to those while you are there.
