What is a concealed mixer and what do I need to install one?
A concealed mixer is a shower or bath mixer where the working cartridge and pipework sit behind the wall, leaving only a slim trim plate and lever visible. Each installation needs two components: the rough-in body (built into the wall during construction) and the trim kit (the visible plate, lever and handle, fitted after tiling). Always buy the rough-in body and trim kit together as a matching set, since cross-brand fitting is not supported and rough-in dimensions vary.
Will a concealed mixer work on South African mains pressure?
Almost all of the concealed mixers in this range are designed for the 1 bar to 5 bar pressure window common in South African homes, with standard 15mm inlet connections. For homes below 1 bar (typical on older geyser-fed gravity systems), confirm the mixer's minimum operating pressure on the spec sheet, since some thermostatic and pressure-balanced cartridges need at least 0.5 bar dynamic to function. A pressure-balanced concealed mixer will smooth out temperature changes when another tap opens elsewhere in the house.
What is the difference between a single-function mixer and a diverter mixer?
A single-function concealed mixer feeds one outlet: either a shower head, hand shower or bath spout. A two-way or three-way diverter mixer lets you switch between outlets (for example overhead shower, hand shower and bath spout) from a single trim plate. Diverter mixers need separately plumbed outlets behind the wall, so the rough-in stage matters: decide the number of outlets before the plumber sets pipework. Adding outlets later means opening the wall.
