Dado Quartz Freestanding Basins
A freestanding stone basin is a deliberate purchase. There is no cabinet and nowhere to hide a trap, so the plumbing must be planned around it. This collection holds 18 DadoQuartz pillar basins in three fixed heights, across the Annelie, Edith, Mango and Ava models. A nineteenth item, the Ava at 560 x 365 x 120, is a countertop bowl, so look for Pillar in the title.
What Has to Be Under It
Dado publishes two service routes, and one must be chosen before the screed goes down. A bottom cavity basin takes its waste straight down inside the pillar: the drain outlet and S-trap connect to the underfloor drain, and Dado calls for a floor cavity of at least 120 mm. A back cavity basin turns its access panel to the wall instead, so supply and waste run behind it. Either way the basin is fixed down: mounting hardware at the base, pilot holes drilled into the floor, silicone or epoxy in the holes, 24 hours to set. Dado also asks for a level floor and a wall square to it.
WTH, NTH and Choosing the Height
The tap hole code is the one to read. WTH means with tap hole, so the mixer mounts on the basin. NTH means no tap hole, committing you to a wall or floor-standing mixer, and that pipework must be set out early. Ten are NTH, eight WTH. Dado's pillar basin guide asks for a spout reach of at least 60 mm. Height is fixed by the casting: four are 820 mm, twelve 910 mm and the two Ava pillars 960 mm, so the 820 mm models sit closest to conventional vanity height.
Models, Overflow and Finish
Annelie and Edith are both 500 x 500 in plan at 820 mm or 910 mm, the square-column option. The Mango is 580 x 400 x 910 on a narrower 200 mm base, and the Ava pillar is tallest at 550 x 450 x 960. Dado publishes a waste diameter per model, 45 mm on the Edith and 40 mm on the Mango, so confirm it before buying the waste. The Ava pillar is the IOF option, carrying Dado's internal overflow.

No, the height is cast into the piece and cannot be adjusted on site. Four of the pillar basins here stand at 820 mm, twelve at 910 mm, and the two Ava pillars at 960 mm. The 820 mm Annelie and Edith sit closest to a conventional vanity height. The taller models suit adults and a sculptural, open bathroom, but are worth standing next to before you commit, particularly if children will use the basin.
Do freestanding Dado basins have an overflow?
Most do not. Dado uses NOF for No Overflow and IOF for Internal Overflow, its own term for a concealed channel formed inside the bowl. In this collection the Ava pillar is the IOF option. Because there is no cabinet to catch a spill and the waste runs into the floor or the wall behind, a basin without an overflow needs the plug watched. Overflow is cast in at manufacture and cannot be retrofitted.
Can a scratch on a DadoQuartz pillar basin be dealt with?
Yes, because the material is solid through its thickness rather than glazed. Dado's own guidance is to sand the mark out gently in a circular motion under water, starting at 800 grit on a polished finish or 220 grit on a matte finish, then working up through finer grits to blend the area. On polished pieces you finish with a cloth and white automotive polishing compound. Custom colour finishes should not be sanded or polished, only cleaned.
