As a rule, allow at least 600 mm if you want to hang one bath sheet folded in half, or 800 mm for two adult towels side by side without overlap. For master bathrooms with separate hanging space for hand towels, a 600 mm double rail paired with a single robe hook often works better than a single oversized rail. Measure the clear wall space and leave at least 100 mm clearance either side.

Are stainless steel or brass double rails better for the South African climate?

Both perform well in our climate provided the grade is right. Grade 304 stainless steel resists rust and the chloride-rich air found in coastal areas like Cape Town and Durban, and it holds finishes consistently over time. Solid brass is heavier, takes plated finishes beautifully (chrome, brushed nickel, gold) and stays rigid under load, but lower-grade brass can suffer from dezincification on direct mains contact. How are double towel rails fixed to the wall?

Most rails in this range use a concealed wall plate with screw fixing, hidden by the rail brackets once installed. For drywall or hollow walls, use suitable cavity anchors rated for the rail weight plus a full load of wet towels (typically 3 to 5 kg). For tiled walls, a tile-bit drill and a masonry plug behind the tile is the correct approach to avoid cracking the surface. We do not recommend adhesive-only fixing for double rails, because the moment arm of a wet towel can pull the rail loose over time.

How do I keep matte black and brushed finishes looking new?

Wipe daily with a soft damp cloth and dry to avoid water spotting, especially on matte black where calcium deposits are most visible. Avoid bleach, ammonia, vinegar and any abrasive cream cleaner, all of which will scratch the surface coating and dull the finish permanently. For brushed nickel and brushed stainless, always wipe in the direction of the grain. If a stubborn watermark builds up, a tiny amount of mild dishwashing liquid on a microfibre cloth is the safe limit.
