Duravit Urinals

Urinals get specified for offices, restaurants, schools, clubhouses and guest cloakrooms, and the reason is usually water rather than style. Duravit puts a standard urinal at one to two litres a flush against the three to six litres a conventional toilet uses, so in a busy washroom the saving compounds quickly. This page carries Starck 3, D-Code, DuraStyle, Fizz, Katja and ME by Starck ceramics, plus a waterless DuraStyle model and a matching Starck 3 partition.

The Ranges

Starck 3 and D-Code are the two most asked for, and both are plain white sanitary ceramic that sits comfortably next to the pans in the same ranges. Fizz and Katja are the more compact designs. The ME by Starck urinal is the one to look at on a specification job, because Duravit finishes it with DuraShield, which it describes as a two in one protective glaze that is easy to care for and antibacterial, with a smooth, almost pore free surface that dirt and limescale run off more easily.

Flushing and the Waterless Option

Most of these are flushing ceramics, and Duravit notes that the siphon trap keeps odours down even under intensive use. The DuraStyle waterless urinal takes a different approach. Duravit describes its waterless models as working through a hose membrane that opens automatically as urine flows through and closes again afterwards, sealing the drain without a water trap and removing the flush entirely. Worth costing where a water connection is awkward.

Water Supply, Flush Control and Partitions

Check the inlet before you order. Several models here are listed in both a top entry version, where the supply comes down into the bowl from above, and a version fed from behind so the pipework stays out of sight in the wall. Flush control for a concealed installation runs off the 500 x 1148 mm DuraSystem urinal frame on our Duravit cisterns page, actuated by the 130 x 150 mm A1 urinal plate on Duravit flush plates. The Starck 3 partition, 400 mm deep and 705 mm high, divides a bank of bowls.

How much water does a Duravit urinal use per flush?

What is the difference between a top entry and a concealed inlet urinal?
It is where the water comes in. A top entry bowl takes the supply down into the bowl from above, which means the pipe and flush control are visible on the wall and it is far easier to retrofit. A bowl fed from behind has the supply hidden in the wall, which looks cleaner but has to be set out during first fix. Katja and D-Code are stocked both ways.
What do I need besides the urinal bowl?
For a concealed installation, three more things. The DuraSystem urinal frame, 500 x 1148 mm, is built into the wall and takes the concealed flushing valve. The A1 urinal actuator plate, 130 x 150 mm in white, is the visible control on the front. A waste and a water inlet mechanism complete it. On a bank of two or more bowls, add the Starck 3 partition between them.
What is DuraShield on the ME by Starck urinal?
DuraShield is Duravit's ceramic glaze, which the company describes as a two in one protective glaze that is both easy to care for and antibacterial. The surface is smooth and almost pore free, so dirt and limescale run off it more readily than off a standard glaze. On a urinal in a busy public washroom that translates directly into less cleaning effort for the same result.
