The installation method matters more than the shape. Countertop and lay-on basins sit on a washtop and read as a separate object. Drop-in vanity basins set into the cabinet top for a flatter line, and slim rim versions cut the ceramic edge further. Wall-mounted basins keep the floor clear, while full and half pedestals conceal the trap and supply pipes. Semi-recessed basins project forward from a shallow cabinet, and under-countertop models sit beneath a solid top. Corner basins solve the guest cloakroom with no straight wall to give. Geberit puts the top edge of a classic or vanity basin at roughly 85 cm above finished floor and a lay-on basin nearer 90 cm, so fix the type before the cabinetry is set out.

Settle the tap hole configuration at order stage, because it cannot be changed later. The collection includes basins with a single centred tap hole, with left and right tap holes for a double installation, and with none at all for wall-mounted taps. Overflow is likewise fixed in the ceramic, and several Selnova Comfort basins are made for barrier-free use. Some carry Geberit's KeraTect glaze, fired into the ceramic at high temperature rather than applied as a surface coating, leaving a non-porous face that resists dirt and limescale.

What is KeraTect glaze and is it worth specifying?
KeraTect is Geberit's special glaze for sanitary ceramic. It is not a coating applied to the finished piece. It is fired into the ceramic at high temperature, filling in surface unevenness to leave a virtually non-porous face. In practice that means dirt, limescale particles and bacteria have far less to hold on to, so the basin wipes clean rather than needing scrubbing. In hard water areas, and on a basin that gets heavy daily use, it is worth the difference.
Do I need a separate waste and trap with a Geberit basin?
Usually yes, and they are stocked here alongside the ceramic. Choose a waste to match the basin's overflow arrangement, then a trap to suit the installation. Bottle and dip tube traps with a horizontal outlet are the standard choice and come in bright chrome and matt black to match tapware. Space-saving models free up cabinet room for drawers. If you want nothing visible under a wall-hung basin, specify a concealed trap and set it out at the rough-in stage, since it cannot be retrofitted easily.
