Gio Bella Shower Arms
Gio Bella Shower Arms
Eighteen shower arms from Gio, and this is the part of a shower nobody thinks about until the head is hanging in the wrong place. The arm is the pipe that carries the rose out from the wall or down from the ceiling, and it fixes exactly where the water lands. Lengths here run 120mm, 150mm, 240mm, 300mm and 400mm, in round and square profiles, listed in matt black, chrome and stainless steel.
Wall or Ceiling
Six arms on this page are named as ceiling or roof arms and two are named as wall mounted. The remaining ten do not state a mounting in the title, so check the product listing rather than assuming. Read the shape words carefully too: round and square describe the profile of the tube and the cover plate, not where the arm goes. The two 150mm ceiling arms are one round and one square, which is exactly why the profile tells you nothing about the mounting.
The choice itself is usually made for you by the plumbing. A wall arm takes the feed that already comes out above the mixer, which is the normal arrangement in an existing bathroom. A ceiling arm needs a pipe run in the ceiling void, so it is a new build or a full strip out decision. A ceiling drop puts the rose over the middle of the shower floor and keeps the wall clear, which is why it turns up in walk in showers with a large rose.
Getting the Length Right
On a wall arm the length is the projection, so a 300mm arm puts the rose 300mm out from the wall face and a 400mm puts it further into the shower. Short arms leave you standing against the wall to get under the water. On a ceiling arm the length is the drop, so a 150mm arm sits the rose close to the ceiling and a 300mm brings it down. Work from the finished head height you want, and remember a large square rose extends well past the point where the arm ends.
Matching the Rest of the Shower
The arm, the rose and the mixer are all visible at once, so specify them together. The roses are on Gio Bella shower heads in the same round and square profiles, and the mixers sit with the rest of the tapware on Gio taps. If the floor drainage is still open, the linear channels are on shower channels and traps. The full range is on Gio Bella.
