Frequently Asked Questions
How do I work out how many kitchen tiles I need?
Measure the length and width of each surface in metres, multiply for the square metre total, then add a waste allowance for cuts and breakages. Bella Bathrooms & Tiles recommends 10% extra for straight-lay patterns on simple rectangular floors and walls, and 15% for diagonal or herringbone layouts and rooms with multiple cut-ins. Box yields differ by format and finish, so we always recalculate against the actual product page once you have your measurements. Send your dimensions through and we will confirm exact box counts before you order.
Porcelain or ceramic: which holds up better in a busy kitchen?
Both work, but porcelain is denser, less porous and rated for higher foot traffic and impact, which is why it is our default recommendation for kitchen floors and splashbacks behind hobs. Ceramic remains a great choice for low-traffic walls or feature areas and tends to be more budget-friendly. Glaze hardness (PEI rating) matters more than the body type for daily wear: PEI 3 and above is fine for residential kitchens. The range you are viewing includes both, so filter by surface and we can flag the right spec for your project.
Do these tiles need sealing?
Glazed porcelain and ceramic tiles do not need sealing on the face. The grout joints do benefit from a penetrating sealer applied after installation and refreshed every couple of years, particularly behind cooking zones where oil and steam build up. Natural stone tiles such as travertine, marble and certain stoneware finishes require a pre-installation impregnator plus periodic resealing, and the product page will note when that applies. We can specify the right sealer with your order so your tiler has it ready on site.
What size tiles work best for kitchen splashbacks and floors?
Large format tiles (600x600mm and up) create fewer grout lines and visually expand smaller kitchens, which is why they dominate current floor specifications. For splashbacks, subway tiles (75x150mm or 100x200mm) remain a classic, while 300x600mm and slab formats give a seamless modern look behind the cooktop. Anything above 600mm needs a perfectly flat substrate and a back-buttered installation. Bring your floor plan to our Kramerville showroom and we will walk through formats against your cabinetry and lighting.
Can you help coordinate delivery to my contractor on site?
Yes. We work directly with builders, tilers and project managers across Gauteng to schedule deliveries against the construction programme, so tiles arrive when the screed is ready and not weeks early to clutter the site. We can split deliveries by zone, hold stock in our warehouse until call-off, and supply matching trim and adhesive at the same time. Book a personalised consultation at our Kramerville showroom over a cup of our amazing coffee and we will map out the logistics with you.
