Frequently Asked Questions
How much tile do I need per square metre?
Wall tile coverage depends on the format. Most boxes at Bella Bathrooms & Tiles are sold with the square-metre yield printed on the label (for example, our 600x600mm porcelain typically yields 1.44m² per box). As a rule of thumb, measure the surface area in metres, then add 10 to 15 percent for cuts, breakages and matching future repairs. Larger formats and herringbone or diagonal layouts sit at the upper end of that range. If you bring your plan to our Kramerville showroom, we will run the take-off with you.
Can wall tiles be used on the floor as well?
Some can, some cannot. Wall-rated ceramic tiles are generally too soft and slip-prone for floors, while most porcelain tiles in our range are dual-purpose for both wall and floor installation, subject to the slip rating (R-value) for the area. Wet-zone floors and shower bases need a higher slip rating than a dry bathroom floor. Our team is happy to confirm the rating on any specific tile and recommend the right pairing for your installation.
What is the difference between rectified and non-rectified tiles?
Rectified tiles have been cut to a precise, square edge after firing, which allows tighter grout joints (typically 2 to 3mm) and a cleaner, more contemporary finish. Non-rectified tiles have a slightly cushioned edge and need a wider joint (usually 4mm or more) to accommodate small dimensional variances. Both look beautiful when fitted properly. Your choice will depend on the look you want and the tiler's experience.
How do I care for wall tiles after installation?
Most porcelain and glazed ceramic wall tiles in our range need very little upkeep. Wipe down with warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid bleach-heavy or abrasive products on natural stone, polished or matt finishes, as these can dull the surface or attack the grout over time. For natural stone tiles, we recommend an annual reseal. Bring your tile selection to us and we will advise on the right cleaner and sealer combination.
Does Bella deliver tiles nationally?
Yes. We dispatch tile orders across South Africa and routinely coordinate logistics with builders and project managers. Lead times depend on whether the stock is local or imported, and on the destination. For larger projects, we will confirm volumes, packaging and a delivery slot up front so the tiles land on site when you need them.
