Axor Universal Accessories
Axor is the premium design line from Hansgrohe, and Universal is the accessories programme that finishes a room once the taps are settled. Almost everything here is a wall piece, from paper holders and towel rails to hooks, rings and brush holders. Hansgrohe builds the programme on three basic shapes, and the shape is the decision that matters, because every other piece has to agree with it.
Circular, Rectangular or SoftSquare
Axor Universal runs as three parallel lines, each drawn on one geometry, and the shape is written into the product title so you can read it off the listing. Circular is the round line, developed with the London studio Barber Osgerby, the same designers behind the Axor One mixers. Rectangular is the crisp-edged line, developed with Philippe Starck, which is why it sits so easily beside Axor Starck brassware. SoftSquare keeps the square footprint but rounds the corners, a middle setting between the two.

Paper holders are the biggest group: single and double, with a cover and without, plus spare roll holders. Towel storage runs from rings and single hooks through single and twin-handle holders up to bath towel rails at 600 mm and 800 mm. Toilet brush holders are all wall-mounted. The small pieces are a 300 mm shelf, a soap dish and a toothbrush tumbler holder, plus a chrome adapter set and cover. No basins, cabinets or mirrors here.
Finishes and How They Are Made
Finish is the other half of the choice. Alongside chrome and matt black, most of the range is offered in Axor FinishPlus, the Hansgrohe surface programme applied by physical vapour deposition, a vacuum coating process rather than a plated or painted layer. Brushed Bronze, Brushed and Polished Red Gold, Brushed and Polished Black Chrome and Polished Gold Optic all come from it, and the same names run across Axor mixers, so accessories and brassware can be specified to match exactly.

What is Axor FinishPlus?
It is the Hansgrohe programme of special surfaces for Axor, produced by physical vapour deposition. The parts are coated in a vacuum chamber rather than plated or sprayed, which is why the colour reads as metal rather than paint. Brushed Bronze, Brushed and Polished Red Gold, Brushed and Polished Black Chrome, Polished Gold Optic and brushed nickel all belong to it. Hansgrohe describes these surfaces as particularly scratch resistant.
How do I clean Axor brushed and polished finishes?
Hansgrohe recommends a soft cotton cloth, dampened only if needed, and warns against abrasive sponges. Use a mild cleaner, spray it onto the cloth rather than onto the fitting, then rinse with clean water so nothing is left sitting on the surface. Avoid anything containing hydrochloric acid, formic acid, acetic acid or chlorine bleach. PVD surfaces need no extra treatment beyond that.
