Duravit Cisterns

Two different jobs sit on this page. The DuraSystem in-wall frames and concealed cisterns are what a wall-hung pan hangs off, and the close-coupled cisterns are the visible ceramic tanks that bolt onto a floor standing pan. DuraSystem Concealed Cisterns and Frames

DuraSystem is Duravit's in-wall programme for toilets and urinals, offered in two forms: dry installation, self supporting and designed to be panelled over with plasterboard, and wet installation, for building into solid masonry. One dry element carries integrated ventilation for odour extraction, and Duravit lists both the standard and wet elements as available with a hygienic flush. The toilet cisterns are specified as dual flush at 3 to 6 litres, prepared for Duravit Rimless pans. A 500 x 1148 mm frame for a concealed flushing valve covers the urinal side.

Close-Coupled Cisterns

These are range specific, not universal. A DuraStyle cistern is made for a DuraStyle close-coupled pan and a Starck 3 cistern for a Starck 3 pan, because the bolt centres, the flush outlet and the ceramic proportions are matched to that range. Every close-coupled cistern stocked here is dual flush. If you are replacing a cracked tank rather than doing a full bathroom, identify the range first and bring the old lid in if you are unsure.

The Flush Plate Finishes the Job

A concealed cistern is only two thirds of the installation. The frame carries the load and the cistern sits inside it, but the actuator plate is what you press and the only part left visible once the wall is tiled. What is the difference between a Duravit concealed cistern and a close-coupled cistern?
A concealed cistern is built into the wall inside a DuraSystem frame and hidden behind tiling, with only the flush plate showing. A close-coupled cistern is the visible ceramic tank that bolts directly onto the back of a floor standing pan. Concealed looks cleaner and frees the floor, but it has to be planned before the wall goes up. Close-coupled is far easier to retrofit.
Will a Duravit close-coupled cistern fit any pan?
No. These cisterns are matched to their own range. A DuraStyle cistern is made for a DuraStyle close-coupled pan, a Starck 3 cistern for a Starck 3 pan, a D-Code cistern for a D-Code pan, and so on, because the bolt centres, the flush outlet and the ceramic proportions differ between ranges. Identify the range on your existing pan before ordering a replacement tank.
What is the difference between dry and wet installation DuraSystem frames?
Dry installation elements are self supporting steel frames intended for drywall construction, so they are fixed to the floor and wall and then panelled over with plasterboard. Wet installation elements are built into solid masonry and plastered or filled in around. Choose on how the wall is being built. In most South African brick construction the wet installation element is the one that applies.
What does odour extraction on a DuraSystem frame do?
Duravit offers one dry installation element with integrated ventilation for odour extraction. It draws air from inside the bowl and vents it away rather than letting it into the room, which deals with the smell at source instead of masking it afterwards. It is worth specifying in a guest cloakroom or an en suite off a bedroom, and it must be decided before the wall is closed.
What do I need besides the cistern for a wall-hung Duravit toilet?
Four parts, bought separately. The DuraSystem frame carries the load and fixes to the floor and wall. The concealed cistern sits inside it. The actuator plate finishes the front and operates the flush. The pan then hangs off the frame, and you will usually want a seat as well. Specify all four together, because the frame is built in first and is not easy to change later.
