Duravit Flush Plates

The flush plate is the only part of a concealed cistern anyone ever sees, so it carries the design decision for the whole installation. It is also the service access: taking the plate off gives you the front of the cistern without touching the tiling. This page covers Duravit's DuraSystem actuator plates, both the mechanical A1 in its range of finishes and the touchless A2, along with the A1 plate made for urinal flush control.

A1 Mechanical Actuator Plates

The A1 is the workhorse. It is a dual flush plate with two buttons, a full flush and a reduced flush, and Duravit lists it as mountable either on top of the finished surface or flush with it, which matters if the tiler has already set out the wall. The WC plates here measure 217 x 147 mm on the face and sit only 10 mm proud. Finishes stocked run from high gloss chrome and matt black to brushed bronze and plain white plastic, so the plate can either disappear into a white wall or be treated as hardware alongside the taps.

The Touchless A2

The A2 is the electronic option, made in white single pane safety glass and surface mounted. It has no mechanical buttons at all. Duravit describes the plate as unlit in standby, with an infrared sensor that illuminates the symbols as someone approaches, and the dual flush function is retained. In a guest cloakroom it reads as a piece of glass on the wall until it is needed, and in a commercial washroom the argument for it is simply that nobody has to touch anything.

Matching the Plate to the Cistern

Plates are not universal. A DuraSystem plate belongs on a DuraSystem cistern, because the push rods and the mounting frame are made for that cistern. Check what is in the wall before you order against our Duravit cisterns page, and see Duravit wall-hung toilets for the pans that hang on the same frames. The 130 x 150 mm A1 urinal plate in white pairs with the DuraSystem urinal frame and the ceramics on Duravit urinals.

If you are not sure what you already have in the wall, take the existing plate off and bring it in. The full Duravit range is on display at our Kramerville showroom in Johannesburg, where plates are shown on working frames so you can feel the button action before you choose a finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which flush plate fits my Duravit concealed cistern?
A DuraSystem actuator plate belongs on a DuraSystem concealed cistern. The push rods and the mounting frame are made for that cistern, so a plate from another manufacturer will not line up even if the aperture looks similar. If you are renovating and do not know what is behind the wall, take the existing plate off and look for the name on the inspection frame or protection box before ordering.
What is the difference between the Duravit A1 and A2 flush plates?
The A1 is mechanical. It has two physical buttons for the full and reduced flush and comes in chrome, matt black, brushed bronze and white. The A2 is electronic and touchless, made in white single pane safety glass, with an infrared sensor instead of buttons. Duravit describes the A2 as unlit in standby, with the symbols illuminating as someone approaches. Both keep the dual flush function.
What finishes do Duravit flush plates come in?
The plates stocked on this page cover high gloss chrome, matt black, brushed bronze and white plastic, plus the white glass front of the touchless A2. Chrome and white are the safe choices in a mixed scheme. Matt black and brushed bronze are worth pairing deliberately with the tap and shower finishes, since the plate sits at eye level on a plain tiled wall and will be noticed.
Can I replace a Duravit flush plate without opening the wall?
In most cases yes. The plate and its mounting frame come off the front of the cistern, so a like for like swap within the DuraSystem programme is a front access job that does not disturb tiling. That same opening is how the cistern internals are reached if anything ever needs attention. Bring the old plate in and we will confirm the match before you buy.
Is there a Duravit flush plate for a urinal?
Yes. The DuraSystem A1 actuator plate for urinals is a smaller plate, 130 x 150 mm, supplied in white, and it works with the DuraSystem urinal frame for a concealed flushing valve. Specifying it alongside the WC plates keeps a washroom reading as one scheme rather than a set of unrelated fittings, which is the usual reason it gets asked about on commercial jobs.
