Franke Zip HydroTap
Franke Zip HydroTap
Sixteen listings, and they are not all taps. A HydroTap is a two part system: a tap at the sink, and a command centre in the cupboard below that filters, heats, chills and carbonates. This page carries the G5 taps and command centres in matt black, chrome, brushed gold and brushed rose gold, one commercial unit, plus the font kits, extensions, hoses and CO2 kit that go with them.
What BC, BCS and BA mean
The letters are the water options, and the first thing to settle. BC is boiling and chilled. BCS is boiling, chilled and sparkling. BA, how the commercial tap here is listed, is boiling and ambient. Sparkling means a CO2 cylinder in the cupboard beside the command centre, so a BCS installation has to have room for it. On G5 the command centre reports the CO2 level on screen.
The rest of the name says who it is for. A residential command centre is listed as Home M. A commercial one carries a number instead: Zip sizes those 20, 60 and 100, the number being the headcount it serves. The BCS60 here is a commercial unit for up to sixty people; a BCS Home M is the domestic version.
Arc, Cube and Classic Plus
Those are tap forms, not functions, so they cut across the letter codes. Arc is the curved spout, Cube the squared one, Classic Plus the upright profile. G5 is the current generation, and it brought a reworked menu with energy and sleep settings, the CO2 level indicator, SteriTouch antimicrobial protection through the water path, and R290 refrigerant. Filtration is Zip's 0.2 micron MicroPurity, fitted as standard. The tap extension is made for Classic Plus and Touch Free Wave taps only, not Arc or Cube.
What it needs under the sink
Franke's installation notes are specific, and worth reading before cabinetry is built. The command centre sits directly beneath the tap and no more than a metre from it, with ventilation clearance of 50mm each side, 220mm above and 65mm behind. It plugs into a 15 amp point within a metre on a 220 to 240V supply, and the plumbing must be done by a qualified plumber to South African regulations. A tap not dispensing into a sink needs a font kit, plumbed to waste. See also Franke plumbing parts, boiling water taps, the wall mounted Zip Hydroboil and Franke.
